Kekou History

From the Silk Road to Bridge Road, Richmond

As early as the 15th century, historical civilisations in Asia, Northeast Africa and Europe had established a spice trading system, which functioned as an early commerce system in the Eastern world.

What is now regarded as one of the earliest engines of globalisation, spice trading was a very significant factor in the development of the great civilizations of China, India, Egypt, Persia, Arabia and Rome.

In these ancient times, spices were valued as a symbol of wealth and power.

Kekou’s ethos is inspired by the spice traders of the Silk Road—the ancient network of trade routes that connected the East and West. This ancient path was central to all cultural interaction between the East and West for centuries – and the sharing, curiosity, adventure and flavour adulation of the Silk Road is still alive and well in Kekou’s menu and philosophy.
